P artial shadowing of photovoltaic arrays with different system configurations : literature review and field test results

چکیده
Partial shadowing has been identified as a main cause for reducing energy yield of grid-connected photovoltaic systems. The impact of the applied system configuration on the energy yield of partially shadowed arrays has been widely discussed. Nevertheless, there is still much confusion especially regarding the optimal grade of modularity for such systems. A 5-kWp photovoltaic system was installed at K.U. Leuven. The system consists of three independent subsystems: central inverter, string inverter, and a number of AC modules. Throughout the year, parts of the photovoltaic array are shadowed by vegetation and other surrounding obstacles. The dimensions of shadowing obstacles were recorded and the expectable shadowing losses were estimated by applying different approaches. Based on the results of almost 2 years of analytical monitoring, the photovoltaic system is assessed with regard to shadowing losses and their dependence on the chosen system configuration. The results indicate that with obstacles of irregular shape being close to the photovoltaic array, simulation estimates the shadowing losses rather imprecise. At array positions mainly suffering from a reduction of the visible horizon by obstacles far away from the photovoltaic array, a simulation returns good results. Significant differences regarding shadow tolerance of different inverter types or overproportional losses with long module strings could not be confirmed for the system under examination. The negative impact of partial shadowing on the array performance should not be underestimated, but it affects modular systems as well as central inverter systems. 2003 Elsevier Ltd. Performance assessment of a SOFC cogeneration system for residential buildings located in eastern Iran
It is expected that residential units may replace traditional heat and power production systems with cogeneration ones. Among the different cogeneration systems, fuel cell based systems are a suitable choice due to their high efficiency, high power density, low emission and low noise. In this paper, a cogeneration system based on solid oxide fuel cells is examined. The system, including the f...
متن کاملOptimal Reconfiguration of Solar Photovoltaic Arrays Using a Fast Parallelized Particle Swarm Optimization in Confront of Partial Shading
Partial shading reduces the power output of solar modules, generates several peak points in P-V and I-V curves and shortens the expected life cycle of inverters and solar panels. Electrical array reconfiguration of PV arrays that is based on changing the electrical connections with switching devices, can be used as a practical solution to prevent such problems. Valuable studies have been perfor...

The diagnostic accuracy of single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) is profoundly influenced by attenuation phenomenon. Soft tissue attenuation degrades cardiac SPECT image quality, thereby decreasing the possibility of the detection of the lesions. A variety of correction techniques based on different assumptions have been used to reduce the impact of attenuation. Several types of sy...

In order to better constrain models for simulating the environmental effects of large-scale arrays of Wave Energy Converters (WECs), we have performed laboratory experiments using five 1:33 scale, commercially-designed, point-absorber WECs. Multiple array configurations (1-device, 3-device, and 5device) were subjected to a wide range of wave conditions—both regular waves and fully-directional s...
